Newly acquired Memphis Blue Sox bullpen catcher Mike Guthrie was nice enough to join us for a quick interview to discuss amongst other things, his new team, his life, and his love of the arts.  The following interview was conducted on May 18th, 2002 by the TCBL Newswire.

TCBL:  Mike, its been a long and difficult journey to the TCBL...How excited are you to be a member of the Memphis Blue Sox?
Mike Guthrie:  Very

TCBL:  Can you describe the feeling you get being around Tennis Court Baseball all summer long?
MG:  Well today, I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the Earth.

TCBL:  How has your pursuit of education has helped you in TCB?
MG:  Not at all.

TCBL:  What are your expectations for the Blue Sox this summer?
MG:  I hope that we do our best and that everybody has a chance to play.  Also I hope that everybody has fun and I'd like to stress the importance of fun over winning.  Fun is the most important thing.

TCBL:  How do you respond to Bryan Johnson's quote "We're not here to have fun.  We're here to win ballgames.  I don't care if my players are crying after every game because of the incredible amount of psychological stress I put on them, as long as they're mentally deterierating with a winning-record, my job will be complete."
MG:  I agree one-hundred percent

TCBL:  Who do you think will be your greatest competition in the Eastern League?
MG:  Quad City.

TCBL:  One more question Mike.  How many more years do you see yourself playing and how many more years do you think you'll be a Memphis Blue Sock?
MG:  I feel strong enough to play about 69 more years.  And hopefully of those 69 years, 69 of those years will be with Memphis.  Either 69 more years or until 2069.

TCBL:  Thank you Mike and goodluck on the season
MG:  Thank you, it was my pleasure to be on the business end of this interview.
